I'm Danielle Maggio, owner and principal photographer at Artful Documentary Photography. I’m based in Dallas, TX after having lived and worked in Southeast Asia for six years prior. I'm a classically trained photographer with an education in art and photography from MICA (Maryland Institute College of Art) in Baltimore, MD. As a student, I worked as an intern for various wedding and portrait photographers and learned a ton! Now, after 10 years I still love capturing love stories. Over the years, I developed my own style - colorful, light & airy, with lots of joy and a little whimsy.
When I got married I chose an amazing husband and wife team to document my wedding. Because of their education and experience in news photography they were amazing photojournalists and I hired them for their fabulous candid work. I thought that’s all I wanted. What I realized down the road was that I wish I had more formal portraits of me and my friends and family and all the little details of my day. I loved my flower arrangements and thought the concept for them was way cool, but unfortunately, the only lasting images of them are in my head.
So, when I set out to photograph weddings I made a promise that no bride would go without beautifully composed bridal and family portraits and amazing detail shots of her day. I try to capture everything, from the flowers on your tables to the crystals on your shoes. I blend my skills in journalistic and editorial photography to produce stunning, timeless and classically elegant imagery of the candid moments and all the details in between.
I believe that photographs memorialize the present. When a bride looks at my images of her wedding, I want her to relive her day over and over. Likewise, when a mother looks at her growing family I want her to remember her children how they were - little. Believe it or not, I have wedding, engagement and family photographs of my great, great grandparents on both sides of my family. What a beautiful legacy my grandmothers left for me in preserving those photos. I’m forever grateful for the images and feel such a connection to my family. I hope when your children look at your wedding and family photos they will feel the same way. I can't wait to tell your story through my lens!
